The day the world has been waiting for has been and gone as Prince William and Kate Middleton tied the knot at London's Westminster Abbey on Friday. The couple who have known each other since their first year at St Andrews University and have been together, minus a small break for 8 years finally became man and wife. Now to be known as The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge, William and Kate looked as happy as ever before, during and after the ceremony.
Prince William fully suited and booted in his Colonel of the Irish Guards uniform left Clarence House with best man, Prince Harry who might I add was looking just as dashing. They were shortly followed by Kate's mother and brother, with The Prince of Wales and the Duchess of Cornwall arriving shortly afterwards. The Queen and The Duke of Edinburgh came arrived next and of course the bridesmaids and pageboys. Leaving only the bride herself accompanied by her father to arrive at the Abbey.
After weeks of speculation it was revealed; the desginer of THE most awaited dress of the year if not ten years was infact, Sarah Burton of Alexander McQueen. With long lace sleeves, plunging neckine, full bodied skirt enbroided with british flowers and 2.7 metre train, the dress was perfect. Let alone the delicately embroidered veil and Cartier tiara lwhich was lent to Kate especially for the occasion by The Queen. Kate looked amazing, standing outside the Abbey graceful, poised and seeming as calm as ever. William was about to get knocked for six. Kate's sister Pippa, also looked elegant in her Sarah Burton dress, featuring a cowel neck and extremely elegant fit; complementing Kate's gown perfectly.
Inside the abbey, the 1,900 guests were waiting for the Wedding of the century to begin. With that large a guest list plus another few million watching on T.V. I would certainly not be joking around. However, Prince William was bringing out the banter as he joked to Kate's father , Michael that, "It was supposed to be a small family affair." Brave man. With the music finally playing and Prince Harry by his side, the ceremony had begun. Prince William kept facing forwards, yet in order to keep William up to date on the action, Harry turned round to see the Bride coming up the aisle. He clearly approved of the dress as with an approving grin, he seems to say to William, "Wait until you see the dress." Once at the alter, Kate and William exchange loving glances and he tells her, "You look beautiful."
Sounds perfect? You haven't seen anything yet. As after the ceremony the Royal Couple head back to Buckingham Palace in a horse drawn open top carriage, looking the picture if happiness. The balcony scene soon arrives and certainly does not dissapoint as we witness not just one, but two kisses from the newlyweds, sending the crowds into an almighty cheer. They retreat inside the Palace and it is not until later on that they return to Clarence House before the evening festivities in Prince William's father's convertible Aston Martin, with ballons, ribbons and numberplate reading, J5ST WED.
If you thought that Kate would return to the Palace for the evening celebrations in her wedding dress then you would be mistaken. It seems Sarah Burton has been a very busy lady as Kate wore a second dress designed by her. Similar in colour to the wedding dress, but with a strapless bodice, diamate waist and full body skirt; covering her shoulders with a cream bolero cardigan. Kate again looked simply divine.
Prince William and Kate Middleton's wedding was without a shadow of a doubt the wedding of the century. The whole day was faultless and with the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge one day becoming King and Queen of our country, I can happily say that I am definitely proud to be British.
