Although summer hasn't officially finished yet (did it ever start?) we are already seeing the first signs of Autumn/Winter, as the new season's collections are shoved into shops around the country. I suppose it makes sense, as it is usually around about now that the shops are gradually being filled with new collections for the coming season; giving the fashion set the opportunity to source their new purchases before winter sets in. As always, new trends start being set as we view the newest and most current styles for the season ahead. Therefore, this seems like as good a time as any to take a look at this Autumn/Winter's season staples!
1) Blouses. Yes, they are still in and they are not going anywhere fast. Printed or plain, you cannot go wrong. Whether paired with jeans for casual daytime chic or trousers and pencil skirts for a feminie look at the office blouses are the perfect Autumn cover up. The high street is sporting some great options at the moment notabley, Topshop and ASOS who have loads to choose from and if you have a slightly bigger budget then head to Whistles who have a lovely range or even Hobbs who have a couple which caught my eye.
2) Knitwear. This season it's all about the statement Jumper. Animals, slogans and distinctive detailing all hit the nail on the head. Topshop again, have some great options with sheep, rabbits and various slogans being the biggest hits. However, if you are looking for something a little more subtle then you could try Jack Wills for a preppier selection of woollen knits and cardigans. If you have an even bigger budget then head to Net-a-Porter who have some great pieces from various designers, The Row in particular.
3) Skirts. The pencil skirt has made a serious come back this season and is a great option for work and midi/maxi skirts are great trans-seasonal buys as they are feminine yet smart at the same time. Blouses make a great pairing and add a pair of courts for added sophistication. They were popular on the runway with, Jonathan Saunders. Burberry and Gucci all attacking the trend and they are sure to be just as popular off it. If you want a military style then Pop to Alexander McQueen, just as Kate did or for those with a less affluent budget then River Island is the place to go.
4)Jackets. As it starts to get chilly we all need a cosy jacket to snuggle into in the winter months. Barbour have a brilliant selection, from quilted jackets to rain coats. Especially the new Liberty for Barbour range, each with a Liberty Print Lining, perfect for rainy days and cold afternoons. Luckily enough I managed to bag myself one before they sell out! If that's not quite your style and you prefer a wool or duffle coat then try Zara who have a pretty fantastic range.
5) Shoes. It's time to man up as this season shoe staple focuses on the brogue and loafer. Make them girly with skirts and dresses or go boyish and pair them with trousers; cropped or full length both work. Russell and Bromley have of course got the perfect selection, they might not be the cheapest but they dertainly know how to make luxurious leather brogues. Alternatively, River Island have some great leather loafers. The Chelsea boot has also made a come back and Topshop have some good options as do Clarkes.
